China's Electric Two-Wheeler Exports Surge 18.1% in 2025, Driven by Global Green Transition

BEIJING, April 2, 2026 — China's electric two-wheeler industry continued its robust global expansion in 2025, with total exports of electric motorcycles and scooters increasing 18.1% year-on-year, according to official customs data released in early 2026. From January to November 2025 alone, China exported 24.61 million units valued at $6.30 billion, representing a 17.1% increase in export value. This remarkable growth underscores China's dominant position as the world's leading manufacturer and exporter of electric two-wheel mobility solutions.

The growth is fueled by a global push for sustainable transportation, rising fuel prices, and supportive government policies across major markets. Southeast Asia has emerged as the fastest-growing region, with exports to ASEAN countries surging 78% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026. Markets like Vietnam and Indonesia are leading this charge, driven by urbanization, a booming delivery and ride-hailing sector, and favorable regulations. For example, Hanoi, Vietnam plans to ban fuel motorcycles in central districts starting July 2026, while Ho Chi Minh City aims to convert 400,000 ride-hailing vehicles to electric by 2029.

European markets also show strong momentum, with annual growth exceeding 35% as strict emissions regulations and green initiatives accelerate the shift from gasoline-powered vehicles. Key markets include the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, and Greece. Emerging markets across the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and Africa are also significant growth drivers, with demand soaring for affordable, reliable electric transportation for both personal use and commercial delivery fleets.

Industry leaders like Yadea and AIMA are at the forefront of this expansion. Yadea, the top exporter, shipped 860,000 units in the first eleven months of 2025. The company successfully penetrated the highly regulated Japanese market with its PORTA model, capturing 15% of the entry-level electric two-wheeler market shortly after launch. AIMA has established local production facilities in Vietnam and Indonesia, tailoring products to local climate and terrain conditions.

This growth signifies more than just increased sales volume; it represents a strategic shift from "selling products" to "exporting value." Chinese manufacturers are increasingly focusing on higher-quality, technologically advanced models, leading to a steady rise in average export prices. The industry is also moving beyond simple vehicle sales to offer comprehensive solutions, including batteries, charging infrastructure, and after-sales service, establishing a complete global mobility ecosystem.
